Through our partnership with ARC Ride, a Kenyan e-mobility company operating a Battery-as-a-Service model across Nairobi and beyond, trained graduates may access electric motorcycles on flexible financing terms. ARC Ride's battery-swapping network allows riders to swap depleted batteries for fully charged ones in minutes, eliminating fuel costs and range anxiety.

This program is designed for riders who already have experience with traditional petrol-powered bikes and are seeking a greener, more cost-effective alternative. ARC Ride has deployed over 600 battery-swapping cabinets and 25,000 batteries across Kenya, making this a viable option for serious operators.

Requirements

This program is not for everyone. We are looking for serious, experienced riders who understand the commitment. To qualify, you must:

  • Be a graduate of our Green Enterprise Training.
  • Have at least one year of active boda boda riding experience (verified through M-PESA records, Sacco membership, or a letter from a local association).
  • Demonstrate a consistent daily income of at least KES 500 per day from current riding (verified through M-PESA statements for the last three months).
  • Hold a valid National ID and KRA PIN.
  • Be registered with a recognised Sacco or boda boda association.
  • Commit to completing ARC Ride's rider induction on battery handling, swap station protocols, and safe riding practices.

What the loan covers

Through our partnership with ARC Ride, the financing package includes:

  • The electric motorcycle
  • A battery subscription (Battery-as-a-Service model)
  • Access to battery-swapping cabinets across Nairobi
  • Insurance and health cover where applicable

How to apply

  1. Complete our Green Enterprise Training.
  2. Submit an expression of interest with your riding experience, current income, and Sacco or association membership.
  3. Attend a verification session to check your documents, income records, and experience.
  4. Undergo ARC Ride's rider induction on the battery-swapping system and safety protocols.
  5. Access financing. If approved, you receive the bike and battery subscription through our partner lender. Repayment schedules are structured to match your daily income flow.

Our Green Enterprise Training includes a module specifically for boda boda riders. You will learn:

  • How electric bikes compare to petrol models (cost, maintenance, range)
  • Battery-swapping logistics and costs
  • Daily income tracking for loan repayment
  • Fleet management if you plan to expand

Notes on ARC Ride: ARC Ride was founded in 2019 and operates a Battery-as-a-Service model across Nairobi. The company has secured financing from Mirova and British International Investment to deploy over 600 battery-swapping cabinets and 25,000 batteries across Kenya. Each electric motorcycle is estimated to cut about two tonnes of CO2 emissions annually compared to its petrol counterpart.
